MAELYN'S BIRTHDAY
PUPPY LOVE
How to make your daughter the happiest she has ever been and then rip her heart out 2 weeks later. Dais decided that we were ready to have a pet. We tried a kitten and it attempted to scratch baby Dais's eyes out, so took it back immediately. On Thanksgiving, Dais decided to go buy a female Daughtson pup. Maelyn LOVED the puppy. She would take her outside, run around with her, give her food and water, snuggle and play. She was the perfect "mom" to this little puppy. Well potty training is not our strongest area with human children so not sure what we were thinking trying to bring another object into the home that required potty training. The puppy was perfect for a couple of days. No barking through the night, snuggling all day, not chewing anything. Then she got comfortable and hit the real puppy stage. Chewing and ruining toys, messing all over the carpet after I stood out in the cold and snow for 45 minutes trying to get her to go, barking in the middle of the night, jumping on the couch. This is all typical puppy stuff but we thought we had lucked out to find one that wasn't so bad. Dais decided to put her on KSL and we got several calls immediately. A nice lady came to get her. Now this was the hard part. Ripping your daughters heart out. Maelyn was so sad and even askes for the "New Grandma" to bring her puppy back 3 months later. She loved that puppy and we spent a lot of time explaining to her that it wasn't her fault and mom and dad weren't ready for a puppy. I still feel aweful just thinking about it. This was not one of our best parenting moments.
