Weekend Away - May 16th

So I decided to make an effort to not be such a boring mom. I did some research online and asked around to find some fun things to do with my kids and......we did them all in one weekend.

Discovery Center at the Gateway was not all that exciting for Maelyn.

Thanksgiving point with Scott and Aiden. Flower gardens were beautiful and we had a great time.

Daison was playing in a softball tournament and took 1st place.

Maelyn loves to swim so I took her swimming at the hotel and I also taught her how much fun it is to jump on hotel beds.

Sunday morning we hit the Aquarium before heading home. Maelyn was brave enough to touch a sting ray and Dais and I figured we should suck it up and try to touch one too! Baby Dais loved the bright colors.

Grandma Do Do and Pappy in Town

It was great to have grandma and grandpa here. I loved watching them interact with the kids. It was also the first time we had the three Daison's together. We had a great time. Their visit always seems to end too soon. Thanks for your support Mom and Dad. Just yesterday Maelyn was playing outside and asked me to come get in her rocket ship because we were going to blast off to go see Grandma Do Do.

Daison Scott Baby Blessing

What a great weekend! We had many friends and family that came to support us. Thanks to all those who came - it was great to see all of you. We had a great turn out at church, Grandma Pat put on a nice spread for everyone after, and we all enjoyed hanging out with friends and family. How cute is baby Dais in his outfit!

Working on the yard

Large pile of bark chips for my playset, yeh!!!!

Daddy found a worm and Maelyn thought it was cool to hold it.

SLURPEE!!!!!!

Maelyn had her first Slurpee experience. We were given a buzzer at the instacare for a 2 hour wait, but the radius was only 2 miles and we live further than that. I decided to drive to the 7-11 down the street and introduce her to Slurpee's. She picked out the flavor and finished every last drop in the cup. She also discovered that the spoon straws they give you don't really work all that well. After handing me the cup every few sips she learned to hit the bottom of the cup herself and then asked me to get her a new straw because hers didn't work. Even though she was sick, she smiled while she was drinking her Slurpee.

Innocent honesty of a child

I had just been to Quilted Bear to purchase a hat for a gift and picked up what I thought was a very cute grey hat that was similar to this one. My hat has a cute decorative design in white and pink on the side of the hat. I tried on the hat and was happy with my purchase. Normally I don't really like how I look in hats but this was was particularly cute and my hair is longer so I thought I might be able to pass as one of those cute mom's with a cute hat. The next day I needed to run a few errands and hadn't scheduled enough time to get ready. I got the kids ready and put on my new hat and some sunglasses to head shopping. As I was putting Maelyn into her car seat she was looking in the rear view mirror of the 4-runner and says to me, "mom, you look funny in that mirror." I supposed I shouldn't have followed up on the comment but I couldn't help it. "I look funny in the mirror?". "Ya, you look like a guy!"

Lock Up Your Daughters

Daison bought the baby a T-shirt.
Should I be worried that my sweet boy might turn out to be a player like his daddy? Ha Ha

Mom's Make-up

I hadn't heard Maelyn for a few minutes and figured she was into something. Just as I was walking to find her she came around the corner holding my mascara and had already put some on her eye lashes. She actually did a good job and continued to place the brush on her lashes and blink. She is trying to grow up too fast and wants to do everything mom does.

I did get a great picture of her eye. How did I get so lucky to have a blue eyed child.

Happy Easter

Non-traditional Easter this year. Daison had to work Sunday morning at 6:00 am. He was also playing in a softball tournament all day Saturday. We celebrated Easter at 11:00 pm Saturday night when Daison got home from his games. Good thing she is 2 and doesn't know the difference. She was excited to get a basketball hoop, "chapskit", and some candy. She quickly figured out that if she stood on the base of the basketball hoop she could slam dunk and make it every time.

Coloring Easter eggs was also a lot of fun. Maelyn's hand was dyed bright orange but it only lasted a day or two. She had a great time putting the stickers on, coloring pictures, and coloring the eggs. What a fun mess that was.

Easter was very uneventful for Baby Dais. Doesn't he look excited?

I am such a slacker!

Well....I have a lot of catching up to do and I am going to try to do it all at once. Two Maelyn comments:
#1. For a couple weeks Maelyn wouldn't let me put pony tails in her hair. I finally talked her into it one day telling her that we couldn't go shopping unless she let me do her hair. I tricked her with bribery and candy and it was successful. After we arived home from the store the first thing she asked me was to take her hair out and she proceeded to pull on the elastics. After pleeding with me a few times she finally looked at me and sternly said, "But they are bugging me mom. My shoes are bugging me and my pony tails are bugging me so I need them out!"

#2. Maelyn's logic skills at age 2. I was trying to get her ready. Every time I am getting ready Maelyn wants to know where we are going, so I was giving her the run down of the day. We had to go to the doctor's office and then we were going to go to a really cool toy store to look at toys. I explained the plans several times before we were actually loaded in the car. As we pulled out of the driveway she was in deep thought and asked, "Mom...how about we go to the toy store first and then to the doctor's office because then I could have some toys to play with while we are at the doctor's."

2 Year Old Vocabulary

I have learned the hard way that Maelyn at 2 really does listen to what I say. Not only does she listen, but she knows how to turn it on me and use the large vocabulary words correctly. Here are a few examples:

1. Maelyn was eating some Tang a.k.a sugar. She likes to dip her finger in and then lick it off. This makes her finger sticky. She then came over to me on the couch and put her hand on the blanket. I saw her looking at her finger. She asked if I would go wash her hands. Thinking there was just more sugar on her finger I told her to lick it off. She looked at me with this are you kidding me mom kind of look and said, "Mom, that's disgusting!" I looked closer and there were black fuzzies all over her finger. She was right that is disgusting!

2. Maelyn was in the living room watching cartoons. Right in the middle of one of her favorites, Wow Wow Wubbzy, she tells me..."oh, I have to go check my email, I will be right back mom."

3. Maelyn came in to the living room when I was changing Baby Daison's poopy diaper. She walked by and got a whif and with her nose shrugged up said, "What is that aweful smell mom?"

4. Maelyn had spent the night at Grandma Pat's and the next day they stopped at the store before meeting us at Mazie and John's house. She had told us a story about going to the store and there was a scary house there and explained that she didn't like the house and it scared her. Several times that night I was parenting her by saying, "I have told you not to do that and you did it - you need to listen to mom." The next day I was taking the kids to my friends to watch them while I was at work. I was trying to make conversation with Maelyn on the way. She had just re-told the story about being with grandma and that she had taken her to a store with a scary house that scared her. A few minutes later I asked her if she had fun at grandma Pat's house this weekend. Her reply was in a very sturn voice, "I told you mom, she took me to the store and there was a scary house. You need to listen to me mom!"

5. Maelyn and Baby Daison spent a few hours at Gary and Darlene's house. Maelyn had a great time riding on Grandpa Gary's tractor and going in his bus (that is what she calls his motor home). She didn't want to leave their house much and she loves to play with Grandma Darlene's bunnies. When I got her out to the car I asked her to climb across the back seat and get into her car seat. I should have known better. When she is tired she never wants to get in her car seat and we always either negotiate or tell her that it is not a discussion and she has to get in. I got Dais locked in his car seat and walked around to the other side of the car. She had then crawled into the front seat on the passenger side. When I asked her to come get into her car seat she replied; "Mom, this is not a discussion and I am not going to get into my car seat."

Going Shopping

Maelyn LOVES to go shopping. Usually once a day she will ask if we are going to the store or going shopping. She definately doesn't get this from her mom. Upon her request we packed up the whole family and headed to the store. We continued our shopping and were on our way home when she proceeded to question us about where we were going. She never wants to go home after we are shopping, she always wants to go to another store. Here is the conversation:

Maelyn: Mom and Dad....Where are we going?

Daison: (Trying to avoid the answer to avoid the crying fit) We are going to this really cool place and this cool place has a garage with some stairs in it and lots of toys on the inside.

Maelyn: But, where are we going?

Daison: We are going on a drive to this place that is REALLY REALLY COOL! and when we get there we are going to go inside and eat some ice cream - some pink ice cream with cherries in it.

Maelyn in a very disappointed voice: Oh... were going home I guess

Ha Ha, she is so smart!

Scary Monster

Maelyn came home from grandma's with a scary experience and this is the story she told.

Maelyn: Mom, I was playing at grandma's house and she was playing with this ball. When you hit it or drop it, it says, "Whatever". The ball was a scary ball and had eyes like this...
and teeth like this...

and she threw it past my head. It scarred me because it was a scary ball and because grandma was playing with it, because it made a noise. I had water running down my face, because it was scarry and I cried.

Mom: You had water running down your face! That water is called tears

Maelyn: Oh, Ok, I had tears running down my face because I was sad, because grandma threw the scary ball at me mom. But I am ok mom, but the ball had scarry eyes like this...and scary teeth like this...and I was sad.

I think my child is going to be smarter than me...

Last night Maelyn went into my bathroom and shut the door. I figured she was doing something she shouldn't. I asked her what she was doing and she opened the door and peaked her head out. She had her watermelon toothpaste in her hand. When she realized that she wasn't being so sneaky she quickly put her hand behind her back very proud of herself like she was fast enough that I didn't see it and said, "I am just doing nothing mom, because.....I just am in your bathroom for a minute." Then she came out like maybe her conscience is already getting to her and said,"I have my toothpaste mom but it is not candy it is toothpaste. She then started reading the letters on the bottle, "C, O, what's that letter mom?"
"It's an L"
"Oh, an L, your right mom it is an L!"
(she can now recognize 20 out of the 26 letters of the alphabet)

...or maybe I will be able to hold my own for at least a few more years.

Have you ever fallen in love....

over and over again. Have you ever looked into the eyes of your child and fallen in love day after day. Maelyn was sitting at the counter eating an apple just after her bath today. She looked so cute with her bangs hanging in her face. She noticed me staring at her. She looked up and smiled and said, "I love you mom". Awwww, it made my day. She has got to be the sweetest and cutest thing ever.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

LUCKY DAY! The weather was beautiful today. My friend Jeanel Stanley came to visit and see the baby. She brought her big blue eyed son Ryker that is 3 months younger than Maelyn. It was great to see her. What an amazing woman. She is quick whitted and has the funniest sense of humor. I love talking to her. It was great to see her. My heart goes out to her and her family as she is fighting stage IV inflammatory breast cancer. She is putting up a great fight. Her strength is incredible and my testimony has been strengthened tramendously by her faith and diligence. I am LUCKY to know her and to be her friend. Thanks for the visit today. Love you, think of you often, and pray for you always. You are beautiful! Today was the first day it was nice enough for the family to play in the back yard. Maelyn played on her playset and got muddy. Dais and I hit softballs with his soft toss machine. I am so excited for Spring and Summer. It is play time.

Two Year Old Conversation

Dais and I have been playing the childish game of "Pull my Finger..." with Maelyn. The following is a conversation between her and I yesterday morning.
Maelyn: Mom, can I pull your finger
Mom: Sure (Maelyn pulls my finger and nothing happens)
Maelyn: It doesn't work. Can I pull your other finger?
Mom: Sure (again nothing happens)
Maelyn: Can I pull your other finger again
Mom: I make a farting sound with my mouth
Maelyn: It works, but not out your bumb
Mom: Nope not out my bumb
Maelyn: It just works out your mouth. I guess we will have to go to the store to get some batteries for your bumb!

Number Two for the day
Maelyn was eating some candy hearts and decided to share
Maelyn: Hi mom, here is a candy heart for you
Mom: Thank you Maelyn that is nice of you to share your candy
Maelyn: you're welcome mom. I am going to go give Dad a candy heart
A few minutes later Maelyn runs back into the living room
Maelyn: Mom I didn't give Dad a candy heart because he is on the computer and on the phone and he wouldn't listen to me...because...he wouln't listen to me so I didn't give him some candy, so here you go mom.
What a sweetheart!

Sunday Dinner

Last night Anne brought over the Wii Fit. Maelyn and Ben demenstrated the ability to run in place while racing. What a cute pair. These two kids have had a bond since Maelyn was born. They love to play with each other. Maelyn reminds me on a daily basis that Ben or Bender as she calls him - loves her. She is also learning the art of talking her way out of anything. When I catch her doing something she shouldn't, before I can even remind her that she knows better, she explains to me that she is "just fixing something, because it needs to be fixed" because.....the long drawn out explaination as to why she is doing something she shouldn't. She makes me smile every day....well almost every day.

Humility

One usually never asks for humility, yet we are served up a nice dish of it all the time. Just as I think I am getting in control of life, my children (along with a few others) remind me that I have no idea what I am doing. I also chose my profession for several reasons and one of them being that it was one of the medical fields that I didn't have to deal with cleaning up some sort of bodily fluid. Little did I know that the job of being a mom would give me more of that than a CNA. In one day I have cleaned up an aray of fluids that required rubber gloves and the stain cycle and somehow manage to still have a smile on my face. I suppose it was the "I love you mom" with a hug and a kiss at the end of the day.

PESTICATION "Ahhhhh!!"

Yesterday was my first insight to the art of driving your sibling crazy. This is something I do not understand because I am an only child and I don't get how one can have joy by trying to pick on another individual until the point of them snapping. I can already tell that I am going to have a hard time reasoning with my children. So here is the story. I was driving home from work with the kids in the car. Little Daison was not happy and crying. The second he calmed down Maelyn looked at him and yelled "Ahhhhh!!" when he started crying I saw a large smile of gratification on her face. This same scenerio continued the entire 25 minute drive home. I had to laugh a little yet at the same time felt sorry for the little guy who had to keep calming himself down and was defensless against his sister. I am sure this is a small taste of what is to come. Can't we just all get along?

Another Concert.....Am I in Jr. High Again?

This video is a demonstration of the old school dancing and singing that I witnessed at the concert, yet apparently is coming back with Boyz II Men. It was a fun evening. I love concerts! It was great to hear all the old music, plus a trip to Wendover is never forgotten. The only way to top this would have been to attend the Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer concert or NKOTB.

Celine Dion Concert

Daison and I went to the concert in Feb. What a great voice! Some of you may also recognize this song from our wedding video. I wish my clothes also fell off when I stood up and my legs looked like hers. I love concerts! I didn't realize Celine was the last of 14 children and was concidered an accident. So that night I was thankful for "accidents". Aka her and my new baby boy who was also not planned.

LOVE

So many of you may be asking why I would let my sappiness show with titling our blog. It is just a fact that it is who I am. It is also Februrary and I have an excess of hormones. I love the fairytale romance stories, I love to see others succeed, I love to look into my babies eyes and see a sparkle, I love to hear my little girl tell me she loves me, I love my husband and what I like to call our perfect family, I love my job, I love opportunities, I love life and all of its quirks. Everyone deserves to be loved!
